Hiya!
Happy 4th of July, Wimbledon and Silverstone to all who celebrate! A stacked weekend to BBQ, swim or stay inside and watch sports when it gets too hot out. We are officially in peak summer, which means lots of activities and get-togethers, and also means peak movie watching time!! I’m a big advocate of chilling and there’s nothing better than slipping into a cool theater for a couple hours like we did to watch F1. As a big Formula 1 head, I liked it! Fun to see all the cameos of the drivers and other characters we watch every weekend on the track. Brad was great and Lewis Hamilton was a producer, so it seemed very authentic!

This week, I’m coming to you with a list of my top 10 favorite movies. Inspired by the NYTimes Top 100 Movies of the 21st Century, but without the time limitations. No rules!! I highly recommend hitting up your group chats for their top 10 lists and sharing yours. The answers may surprise you and will definitely get a chain reaction of movie ideas to watch for the first time or revisiting an old favorite. This was the case with my friend Zach of
, who’s list contained Michael Clayton - a Clooney classic I’d never seen! Watched it this week and loved. Sharing your favorite movies is a fun and wholesome dinner table topic as well. Some people may get intimidated by the list making and it’s finality, but just go with your gut. Write down the first movies that come to your mind that you love, not what you think needs to be on there to look cool/cultured/etc. It’s not that big of a deal and it’s a fun way to escape the endless scrolling of the Netflix library. So here’s my list!! In order that they came to my mind in:
Superbad - Holds up beautifully and is just so funny and perfect. The dialog is too good. They don’t make em like they used to!!!
Jerry Maguire - A recent watch for me! God it’s good! Young Tom Cruise is a sports agent for football star Cuba Gooding Jr. who won the Oscar for his role. There are so many iconic lines in it like ‘you had me at hello’ and of course ‘SHOW ME THE MONEY!!’ Obsessed.
LA Story - I’ve talked about how much I love LA Story on this newsletter before. Steve Martin wrote and stars in it alongside Sarah Jessica Parker and my fave, Richard E Grant. They poke fun at 90’s LA, which is very much like LA today. A feel good comedy!
The Player - I love movies about Hollywood and The Player is as good as it gets. Directed by Robert Altman, it’s a dark comedy/mystery about a studio exec who receives death threats from a rejected writer. There are tons of celebrity cameos including an epic scene with my aforementioned favorite, Richard E Grant.
Dazed and Confused - When I was living in London as a young model, I watched this movie every night to go to sleep. It’s comforting, classic and the perfect summer movie following some high school seniors in 1976 in Austin, TX. Parker Posey and Matthew McConaughey are amazing in it, and I have a soft spot for the nearly line-less Milla Jovovich. We saw this outside at The Hollywood Forever cemetery last summer and it was so much fun. Set up a projector in your backyard for a similar experience!
Dune Part II - I could watch this movie on repeat. It’s just glorious. An epic, sonic mood symphony. If you haven’t seen it yet, make a weekend out of it and watch Dune Part I and II back to back. Volume all the way up.
Heat - De Niro and Pacino in a detective vs criminal mastermind cat and mouse game. This movie slaps!!! If you want to feel something, watch this trailer and tell me you don’t get goosebumps. Watch Heat on the biggest screen you can find. Playing at the Ojai Playhouse on August 2nd in Dolby Atmos. See you there?
Mean Girls - No explanation needed. I am a millennial woman and this is canon.
Mad Max: Fury Road - I will never stop talking about this movie. Nonstop apocalyptic action with some of the coolest set design ever and all filmed practically in the Australian desert. Stars an ass kicking Charlize alongside Tom Hardy and a cast of models/cool girls like Abbey Lee, Rosie Huntington Whitely and Zoe Kravitz. If you haven’t watched it since it came out, what are you waiting for?
Harry Potter (entire franchise) - You may know that my favorite holiday tradition is watching all 8 Harry Potters as a lead up to Christmas. Harry Potter may not seem like a holiday movie, but they all are! So cozy and they truly never get old.
Mission Impossible (entire franchise except the new one, sorry Tom) - We’ve been on a big Mission Impossible binge and they are all so fun/ridiculous/entertaining. I love the 2nd one with Thandie Newton because I remember watching it when I was young and thinking she was so fabulous and beautiful. The 3rd one is amazing too with Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Fallout is the one though.
Well it appears my list is of 11 and includes 2 separate franchises, so not really a top 10 as it were, but my faves nonetheless! I hope you found something fun to put on your watch list for the summer, and feel free to share your lists in the comments!
In other news, I’m preparing to go out of town next week, and I am feeling pretty shoppy! There is so much good stuff out right now. Just got these sky blue J.Crew PJs that I will definitely be wearing out and about. For those in the market for some boat shoes, Jamie Haller and Le Monde Beryl have excellent options. I have a hard time with sandals as I don’t love something between my toes (besides Havianas) and Birkenstocks are too bulky for me. However, I am loving these Khaite loop sandals! Chic, minimal and elegant enough to wear to dinner. My fave is the red, but you could get the black, snakeskin or the fun beaded version too! Dorsey just dropped some insane new pieces like this gold bracelet, a tennis anklet, plus a restock of the paracords that instantly sold out. Grab one or two while you’re able! I just got this checkerboard raffia tote from Clare V and it will definitely be getting a ton of use from the farmers market to the beach this summer! And finally this silk bandana from equestrian inspired line Dear Cecilia would be so cute tied as a kerchief while riding in a convertible.
That’s all for now! I’ll try to get a newsletter out next weekend, but I’m taking a little vacation and will be finally checking out a hotel that's been on my list for a long time! Any guesses? I’ll definitely be back soon with a full holiday report! If you want to follow along, I’m @kissser on IG. Thanks for being here and if you liked this post, give it a heart! Love you back. Have a great weekend!

Thanks for the movie list!
I love this. 😊 Dazed & Confused is the perfect summer film, watched that countlessly through college. Have to check out LA Story now.
